Counselling for Work-Related Psychological Injury (NSW Workers Compensation)

If a workplace experience has affected your mental health — whether through a single incident, ongoing stress, bullying, or harassment — you may be entitled to psychological treatment under the NSW workers compensation scheme. Newsha Counselling is a SIRA-approved provider (registration 150273) and can support you through that process.

How treatment works under icare

Once your claim is underway, a SIRA-approved provider can begin psychological treatment — the first eight sessions can usually start without prior approval from the insurer, and fees are billed directly to the insurer or claims service provider rather than to you. Your GP plays a central role in lodging the claim and can refer you to a provider of your choice; you're not limited to a set panel.

A trauma-informed, practical approach

Newsha Javahery is a PACFA-registered Clinical Psychotherapist who works with complex trauma, anxiety, burnout and nervous-system regulation. Sessions are warm and considered, with an emphasis on understanding why the nervous system responds the way it does after a difficult work experience — and building practical ways to steady it. Care is taken to make the process clear at each step, because navigating a claim can feel overwhelming on its own.

Available in English and Farsi

Sessions are offered in both English and Farsi, online across Australia and in person in Parramatta. Culturally and linguistically matched support can make a meaningful difference when you're describing something difficult.

What this is — and isn't

This is psychological treatment to support your recovery and, where appropriate, your return to work. It is not a medico-legal assessment or a guarantee of any claim outcome. If you're in crisis, please contact Lifeline on 13 11 14 or call 000.

Thinking about starting? You're welcome to book a free 15-minute intro call to ask questions and see whether it's the right fit.
